Producing emails promoting pioneering tech to scientists
Background
During March 2023 I took on a temporary role with SelectScience, a professional-targeted scientific publishing company. I worked there as a Design and Production Assistant within their email marketing department. In this role, I was authoring copy and using specialist software to code, write and design emails that advertised products, resources and events to their global subscriber base of up to 500,000 science professionals.

Process
At SelectScience, marketing emails took one of two forms; they were either plain text or HTML. The majority of HTML emails were made on the front-end email design platform Bee Pro, as this made customising their layout, style and image content fairly simple. I also used Canva and Photoshop as additional design tools where necessary.
As SelectScience operates on a sponsor model, all URLs added to emails also needed to be correctly encoded using the company's go and tracking links. The HTML code of the Bee Pro design was then taken and transferred across to an internal scheduling system.
There were also briefs in which I was given a pre-created HTML email. It was my responsibility to open this in Microsoft Visual Studios, correctly source the images on the company's internal file system, swap in the right encoded links and tracking information, and fix any formatting issues using HTML coding.

In other circumstances, I was required to use Bee Pro to redesign pre-existing HTML emails in a more engaging format. In some cases, I was required to write email copy myself, often deciphering specialist language from the relevant product note or webinar information to create the sales pitch and call to action.

In addition to the briefs, all email designs were informed by the brand guidelines of the company sponsor in question.
